The Ultimate Argument

So, is it normal that my husband and I are already calling the baby he or she? I want a little girl, of course, so I refer to the baby as 'she'. He wants a boy, of course, so he refers to the baby as 'he'. And now our friends are in on this as well. My best friends refers to the baby as 'she' while her girlfriend refers to the baby as 'he'.

Now I know we should all just be hoping for a happy, healthy baby regardless of the gender but isn't it fun?! For example, I am not a sweets person. I have never enjoyed eating a lot of chocolate or cake. But, this little baby of mine loves sweets! She is always wanting chocolate and candy. So the fun part is telling my husband that and freaking him out. "You know they say that if I'm craving sweets, it's probably a girl!" Now I know this doesn't really matter. I know that at this point there's a 50% chance of a boy or girl but it's so much fun to see the look on my husband's face when I tell him things like that!

So, let's add some wives tales:

1. If you carry high, it's a girl. If you carry low, it's a boy.
My Result: My baby bump isn't big enough just yet to tell.
2. If you crave sweets, it's a girl. If you crave salty or sour snacks, it's a boy.
My Result: I'm always craving sweets so it must be a girl!
3. If the baby's heart rate is 140+, it's a girl. If the baby's heart rate is less than 140, it's a boy.
My Result: The heart rate is around 170 so it may be too early to tell.
4. If you have a lot of morning sickness, it's a girl. If you have no morning sickness, it's a boy.
My Result: I have had very little morning sickness so it must be a boy!
5. If you add drano to a cup of urine and it turns green, it's a girl. If it turns blue, it's a boy.
My Result: I haven't tried this one yet.
6. If you have bad breakouts (acne), it's a girl. If not, it's a boy.
My Result: It's a girl!
7. Gender Predictor
My Results: It's a boy!
8. Chinese Calendar.
My Results: It's a girl! I was 27 when we conceived in the month of March!

What other wives tales have you heard of? Have any of them actually been accurate? I will keep updates on some of these as I go farther along. So far, it looks like a girl but you just never know!

17 Tips - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin

17 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. It took me a little while to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamin. I wasn't used to taking anything daily since I had been off the pill for a few months. I finally got myself in the habit of taking it every morning. I just take an over the counter vitamin. It has the same nutrients as a doctor prescribed vitamin but is less hass...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...

29 Week Bumpdate

The heart rate today was 160 and all is well. Little Man is still kicking away all the time!  He sleeps until late morning and then he's all over the place for the rest of the day.  It's fun but it's also uncomfortable sometimes. When I weighed myself on Sunday, which is when I usually do it to update my pregnancy app, I was only up 15lbs.  As of today, though, I am up 17lbs.  I feel like I am growing at warp speed but the doctor assures me that I am measuring just fine.  I do feel like some of the shirts I wore two weeks ago shouldn't be worn anymore though!  The bump is growing! I have noticed that I have been waking up with swollen ankles every morning despite sleeping with them elevated.  I know this has a lot to do with the weight gain since I had such a problem with it last time.  Other than that, the normal heartburn and backaches come and go and I'm crazy tired but I don't really have any other issues.  I don't ever ...
