#4 Way to be an Awesome New Dad: Relish in the Positive, Not the Negative

"One of my biggest pet peeves is when I see a child complimented by a stranger in front of one of that child's parents, and then I hear the parent sarcastically reply, "You want him? You can take him home with you if you want..." Guard your attitude toward parenting. Sure, there are annoying things, but being the kind of dad your kids will be proud to call their own means building up, not tearing down."

This is yet another area where my husband will have no issues at all. My husband has always been a positive person. He's almost always smiling and laughing and joking around and he generally carries a positive energy with him wherever he goes. His business has made him a little more bitter over the past few months but overall he is still a positive guy.

He will have no problems praising our children at all. He likes to help people. He likes to make people feel better. He likes knowing that he can make a difference in in another person's life. He will be the same way with our children. He will praise them for every good thing they do. He will give them advice for everything bad thing they do. He will never raise his voice or be critical of our children.

Now everything is a big competition for my husband so as soon as someone says "My kid can count to 5," I'm afraid I will hear, "That's great. My kid can count to ten!" He just can't help himself sometimes. But I think that's much better than trying to pawn our child off onto someone else. If you are really that annoyed with your child, then you are doing something wrong.

The way children behave is based on how the parents are teaching them. Yes, I think it's just that simple. If you let your kid do whatever he wants from the time he's a baby, he's not going to listen to you once he gets older. If you teach your child manners and respect, then you should expect to receive just that. I'm tired of parents blaming society for their child's bad behavior. It's your own fault!

Enough of that negativity. Seven more days until we find out what gender this little monster is!! (I say little monster with much love)

I work full time as a Marketing Analyst for a supply chain consulting firm. I don't even know what that means really! I have been here for 3 years and am thinking about a career change. SAHM is looking better and better. My husband owns his own landscaping business which has been both wonderful and horrible at the same time! My husband and I know each other for about 17 years now and we have been together for 12. We got married in September of 2010, just 2 weeks shy of our 10th anniversary! We got pregnant after only 2 months of trying and last December we were greeted by Ashlyn Marie Miller,...

17 Tips - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin

17 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. It took me a little while to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamin. I wasn't used to taking anything daily since I had been off the pill for a few months. I finally got myself in the habit of taking it every morning. I just take an over the counter vitamin. It has the same nutrients as a doctor prescribed vitamin but is less hass...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...
