What is Wrong with This Country?!

So this has absolutely nothing to do with pregnancy but I saw this article and I just had to blog about it because I am just so disgusted by it.

Article: Homeless Mans Death Outrages Father

Read the article for all of the details but this poor man lost his son, who was severely beaten by police and later died. The following videos show how one bystander caught the beating on video, a before and after photo of the victim and the news coverage of what happened:

Before and After Pictures

News Coverage

I don't even know how to express my disgust for this situation. There is an FBI investigation under way to find out what exactly happened and I can't wait to hear about it. Of course, it will only be from the points of view of the cops who beat him to death and we will never know the full truth because the victim is dead!

I just don't understand it. So the guy ran. Ok so they taser him to get him to stop. But why did they feel the need to start pounding the life out of him, literally?! I just can't see how there would be any reason for it.

This poor man was schizophrenic and off his medication. He was scared and I'm sure he was powerful. But I still don't see why six police officers had to kill him. This is just so sad and I feel terrible for the family. My mouth was hanging open and tears came to my eyes when I read the article and watched the videos.

I really hope the police department steps up in this situation and fires these men because I just can't see how there is any justification for what they have done.

17 Tips - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin

17 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. It took me a little while to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamin. I wasn't used to taking anything daily since I had been off the pill for a few months. I finally got myself in the habit of taking it every morning. I just take an over the counter vitamin. It has the same nutrients as a doctor prescribed vitamin but is less hass...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...

29 Week Bumpdate

The heart rate today was 160 and all is well. Little Man is still kicking away all the time!  He sleeps until late morning and then he's all over the place for the rest of the day.  It's fun but it's also uncomfortable sometimes. When I weighed myself on Sunday, which is when I usually do it to update my pregnancy app, I was only up 15lbs.  As of today, though, I am up 17lbs.  I feel like I am growing at warp speed but the doctor assures me that I am measuring just fine.  I do feel like some of the shirts I wore two weeks ago shouldn't be worn anymore though!  The bump is growing! I have noticed that I have been waking up with swollen ankles every morning despite sleeping with them elevated.  I know this has a lot to do with the weight gain since I had such a problem with it last time.  Other than that, the normal heartburn and backaches come and go and I'm crazy tired but I don't really have any other issues.  I don't ever ...
