Happy Thanksgiving...and other things

I decided that I wanted to host one of our holiday meals this year.  For some reason, I chose Thanksgiving.  Which is fine, except this was also the first year my husband wanted to have some of his family over for a Thanksgiving dinner as well.

So, on Thanksgiving day, we had my Dad's side of the family to our house for dinner.  And then on the Saturday after Thanksgiving we had my husband's family to our house for dinner.  It was great.  I had so much food leftover on Thanksgiving day that I didn't even have to cook for the next meal on Saturday.  I just threw everything into crock pots.

Ashlyn had her first sleepover (in at least a year) Thanksgiving night.  She decided that she wanted to go home with my Aunt and her cousin.  They didn't think she would want to stay over but I assured them they would have no issues with that.  And they didn't.  Except that she woke everyone up at 4am because she was coughing so much.  Oh well.

She was completely exhausted by the time we went and picked her up but she had a ton of fun.  And my Aunt just loved having her there.

The day after Thanksgiving, my husband and I attended a funeral. My husband's cousin's daughter had a little baby girl.  When she was born, they found that her brain hadn't developed properly.  She was with us for a total of 9 days before she became an angel.

We were lucky enough to be able to go and meet her the day before she died.  We had no idea when we went that she was in such bad shape.  All we knew was that she was born 7 weeks early.  It was so sad to see her hooked up to all the tubes and wires.  And they had only just held her for the first time that day.  I would have gone crazy.

So the Friday after Thanksgiving we attended her funeral.  It was the saddest funeral I have ever attended.  I really don't know how her parents kept themselves together the way that they did.  I would have been a disaster.

We took our Christmas photos the Saturday after Thanksgiving too.  We got quite a few good ones and I'm having a hard time choosing one for the Christmas card.  We had taken some a few weeks ago but I didn't like them enough to use them.

It's a great photo and I'll probably print and frame it but I like to have our Christmas card photo in front of the tree wearing festive clothing.  It's just my thing.

If you're interested in receiving a Christmas card from us, leave me a comment with your email!  I would love to exchange addresses.  I love Christmas cards!ļ»æ

17 Tips - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin

17 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. It took me a little while to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamin. I wasn't used to taking anything daily since I had been off the pill for a few months. I finally got myself in the habit of taking it every morning. I just take an over the counter vitamin. It has the same nutrients as a doctor prescribed vitamin but is less hass...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...

29 Week Bumpdate

The heart rate today was 160 and all is well. Little Man is still kicking away all the time!  He sleeps until late morning and then he's all over the place for the rest of the day.  It's fun but it's also uncomfortable sometimes. When I weighed myself on Sunday, which is when I usually do it to update my pregnancy app, I was only up 15lbs.  As of today, though, I am up 17lbs.  I feel like I am growing at warp speed but the doctor assures me that I am measuring just fine.  I do feel like some of the shirts I wore two weeks ago shouldn't be worn anymore though!  The bump is growing! I have noticed that I have been waking up with swollen ankles every morning despite sleeping with them elevated.  I know this has a lot to do with the weight gain since I had such a problem with it last time.  Other than that, the normal heartburn and backaches come and go and I'm crazy tired but I don't really have any other issues.  I don't ever ...
