So when I logged onto my computer this morning, the first article that caught my attention was this one (Cheerios Stands) about a new commercial Cheerios has out. They are getting a ton of negative feedback for this commercial and I'm just not understanding why.
So basically, people are upset because this is a white mother, a black father and a biracial child.
What's the big deal?
I know that it isn't a common thing to see in a TV commercial but what's the big deal? I really don't think that biracial couples are uncommone these days so I'm not really understanding why they are getting such negative feedback for this commercial.
I give a ton of props to Cheerios/General Mills for not pulling the ad. They could do that and that would be easy and would end the negativity but they are not going to do that. Good for you. There is no reason why this ad should not be aired.
By the way, I think the commercial is cute and funny and I probably wouldn't have even though twice about the racial aspect of the ad had it not been pointed out. Get over it people!

I don't see anything wrong with that ad. I thought it was really cute.
ReplyDeleteI confessed I noticed the race. But I agree with you. It's cute. It puts out their message effectively. There's nothing to get your knickers in a twist over. Some people are just always on the lookout for things to be offended over.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm certainly not getting my "knickers in a twist" over it. I'm just putting it out there!
DeleteFunny I have seen this commercial quite a few times and I never even noticed until you pointed it out. Maybe because we are a bi-racial couple and we have "beige" kids. lol Actually in the town we moved to there are quite a few people that are bi-racial couples and have "beige" kids. We joke that the school nearby wwill eventually be all "beige" kids.
ReplyDeleteI love that you say you have beige kids LOL
DeleteThere is absolutely nothing wrong with that commercial. Totally adorable. :)
