I just had to blog about this story because it is just so disturbing!
Hot Sauce Mom Charged with Child Abuse
Did she really pour hot sauce in that child's mouth and make him stand in a cold shower? I mean really? All to get on the Dr. Phil show? I can't even comprehend what would make a person that desperate.
I have a 9 year old nephew who I love more than anything in this world. He can be an amazing kid. He can also be the worst child imaginable! He is not a perfect child, he has his bad days just like everyone else. But his bad days don't deserve hot sauce in the mouth. You want to know why your child is mis-behaving? Because you're pouring hot sauce in his mouth!! How can you expect to earn any respect or love from your child if that's the kind of abuse you are giving him?
So the kid had a sword fight with a pencil at school. Is that really what you are punishing him for? A sword fight? I'd hate to see what she would do to him if he said a bad word or got a bad grade.
Let me play something out for you. Now keep up with me here as all of this is hypothetical since we don't have a son yet.
Son: I got into a sword fight at school today
Husband: A sword fight? Using what?
Son: Pencils
Husband: Ok...explain?
Son: My friend and I were just playing around, sword fighting with our pencils. We didn't do anything wrong.
Husband: Hm, a sword fight huh?
Son: Yes.
Husband: You mean a sword fight like this...(takes empty paper towel roll and starts swatting at his son with it)
And the story ends in laughter and fun, with my husband saying 'it's ok to do it at home with me but let's not do it at school anymore.'
I mean how hard is that? The only reason I think my husband would react this way is because I have pictures of he and his brother sword fighting with Styrofoam swords while we were on a camping trip one weekend. This was only a few years ago. They were both adults! My husband is a kid at heart. He knows it's fun to sword fight and would never PUNISH a child in such a horrible way for doing it!
Once again, I just don't see why it was necessary. If you really think you had to do something like that just to get on the Dr. Phil show than you're the one who needs help.
On a better note, I am at 24 weeks today! I won't be posting an update today, I will post it on Monday after my appointment. We didn't get the second house we wanted but we have made some decisions regarding the housing issue. I may also be getting a new car! I will update all on Monday.
