Day 31: A vivid memory.
Before my daughter was born, the doctor had requested that I do a 24 hour urine collection so they could test for protein. My protein had been particularly high and they wanted to see what was going on. So I took off of work on a Tuesday to stay at home all day and pee in a jug. It was so much fun.
On Thursday, the results were in and my protein was way high. So the OB had me come into the office that afternoon for a check up. I was around 38 weeks so I knew there was a small chance that he could me to delivery but I didn't really think it would happen.
So I left work early and went home to shower and make sure I had my bag packed just in case. When we got to the doctor's office, my OB basically said my protein and blood pressure were too high and I was swelling too much. It was time to induce.
Um what?
No we have two weeks left and we have no kitchen. We had decided to remodel our kitchen so the kitchen floor had not been installed yet and everything was in boxes in our living room. We weren't ready to take a baby home!
But we had no choice.
I'll NEVER forget the look on my husband's face. I mean, I was surprised but I was ready. I wanted that baby out! My poor husband turned white as a ghost. The nurse and the doctor both asked him if he was OK because of his reaction. I think they thought he was going to pass out.
So we were checked into the hospital around 4:30 that Thursday afternoon and our little girl was finally born at 6:09 pm the next day. We stayed at the hospital until Sunday which was just enough time for my brother in law to install our kitchen floor. His wife put all of our things back in the cabinets for us and cleaned our living room. My Mom came over that Sunday and helped me clean the nursery since it had gotten a bit dusty from the work being done.
It was a mess but it all worked out in the end. Here's hoping our little man doesn't surprise quite the same way!
