What to Buy a Seven Month Old?????

Ok so Baby Girl will be SEVEN months old next week.  What?!  Yes!  SEVEN months old!  Anyhoo...this little girl is becoming more and more mobile.  She is starting to sit up on her own and she wants to play with everything!  I love it!  I love how curious she is.  I love how she reaches for everything that is in my hand.  I love how she intently focuses on my necklace before she tries to eat it.  I love how she puts both of her hands on either side of my face and just stares at me.

UGH!

The question is...what are the best toys for a seven month old?  We have NO toys for her.  I mean it.  Aside from her bouncer and play mat and a few of the toys that you hang from a car seat, we have nothing!  And I suddenly feel like a really bad Momma Grizz for not having any!  So...what do I get her?  What kinds of toys did you buy your seven month old?

I'm going to start working on making her a play area (you know, a prison) because she is moving around so much more.  I also want to try to contain all of her toys to one area if I can help it.  A few friends have really cute play areas set up for their little ones that I will likely create as well.  But what kinds of toys am I putting in this play area?  I have a few things in mind but I don't want to buy crap she's not going to play with.

So, give me some suggestions.  I don't care how big or small.  I need ideas!  She can't keep playing with my jewelry even if it is ridiculously adorable!

  2. Maya's favorite- everything that's NOT a toy---> water bottles, keys, box of wipes, wipes ect ect ect. LoooL. She does get herself contained and interested in the activity table. However, she didnt care for it till she could stand up. I think it is more interesting to her because she can hold on to it and stand while playing it. She didnt care for it while sitting by it. I also noticed she loves having lots of toys in a box, so she can knock down the box and see what's in there--- not really caring to play with anything inparticular once she sees what the box holds. She does show most interest in anything that will play songs. First she liked it because there was an effect after she banged on it. Now she enjoys having control over playing what she wants and swinging to it as if dancing. But even with those toys its a hit or miss. She loves the table that plays songs and the learning dog ( idk his name). I think no matter what, you will end up with toys that will just sit there and only one or two toys will be of an interest, altho shoved aside if cooler toys are in site ( water bottles ect). The activity table I must say is a big hit for Maya. After a full day out, when we came home one day, she couldnt stop kissing her table. Poor girl was forced to part with it for too long.

    1. Yea Ashlyn pretty much grabs everything. She especially likes paper...I guess because it makes the crinkling noise. I'm going to look into a play table for sure. I guess I'm looking for anything that lights up and makes noise huh?

  4. I also agree with anything that has lights and noise! Haha! I have an almost 9 month old and she loves her play camera and cell phone that light up, sing songs, etc. Other things she loves are cheap toys like a Giggly Wiggler (I think it's called) and a little maraca - both were like 2.99 at Buy Buy Baby. But she also has a bucket for the pool that she plays with and an empty package of wipes are what first got her to crawl at daycare! She does love that crinkling sound!

    1. Thanks for the advice! Definitely will be buying a toy cell phone since she is already in love with my cell phone. Thanks for the cheap toys advice too! I know she is going to 'grow out of' her toys so I hate to spend a ton of money on somethings she's going to play with once or twice and then forget about.

Cheerios Stands

So when I logged onto my computer this morning, the first article that caught my attention was this one ( Cheerios Stands ) about a new commercial Cheerios has out.  They are getting a ton of negative feedback for this commercial and I'm just not understanding why. So basically, people are upset because this is a white mother, a black father and a biracial child.  What's the big deal? I know that it isn't a common thing to see in a TV commercial but what's the big deal?  I really don't think that biracial couples are uncommone these days so I'm not really understanding why they are getting such negative feedback for this commercial.  I give a ton of props to Cheerios/General Mills for not pulling the ad.  They could do that and that would be easy and would end the negativity but they are not going to do that.  Good for you.  There is no reason why this ad should not be aired. By the way, I think the commercial is cute and funny and I proba...

29 Week Bumpdate

The heart rate today was 160 and all is well. Little Man is still kicking away all the time!  He sleeps until late morning and then he's all over the place for the rest of the day.  It's fun but it's also uncomfortable sometimes. When I weighed myself on Sunday, which is when I usually do it to update my pregnancy app, I was only up 15lbs.  As of today, though, I am up 17lbs.  I feel like I am growing at warp speed but the doctor assures me that I am measuring just fine.  I do feel like some of the shirts I wore two weeks ago shouldn't be worn anymore though!  The bump is growing! I have noticed that I have been waking up with swollen ankles every morning despite sleeping with them elevated.  I know this has a lot to do with the weight gain since I had such a problem with it last time.  Other than that, the normal heartburn and backaches come and go and I'm crazy tired but I don't really have any other issues.  I don't ever ...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...
