June 8, 2011

My blog is a year old today!  On June 8, 2011, I started this blog with Our History.  The purpose of this blog was to share all of the important information about my pregnancy to anyone who wanted to read about it.  Today, I still use this blog to share all of the important details of my life and the life of my family.

While I don't have a fancy background or professional blog header, I love writing my blog.  It's probably one of my most favorite things to do.  I love being able to express my opinion on topics and express my love for my daughter.  I love receiving comments from people and I love that people may actually use some of my advice.

I recently applied to have my blog published on Blogher Publishing Network.  Cross your fingers that I get published!!

Here are some stats about my blog:
  • 143 Published blog posts, not including this one
  • 8 drafts pending
  • I follow 33 other blogs right now, almost all about Mommyhood
  • I only have 3 since most of my friends follow the blog via Facebook (is there a way to show that on here?)
  • My recurring blogs are Menu Mondays, So What Wednesdays and Tear to the Eye Fridays
  • I had 471 page views last month, 3,000 overall (I may or may not have visited my own page just to get that from 2,999 to 3,000 yesterday!)
I don't know how my stats stack up to other blogs. I don't even know if they are comparable.  I'd love for my blog to get bigger and better and actually make a little bit of a living writing it, but for now I'm just happy to be able to write.  I'm happy to be able to share some of my life with you.

17 Tips - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin

17 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. It took me a little while to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamin. I wasn't used to taking anything daily since I had been off the pill for a few months. I finally got myself in the habit of taking it every morning. I just take an over the counter vitamin. It has the same nutrients as a doctor prescribed vitamin but is less hass...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...

29 Week Bumpdate

The heart rate today was 160 and all is well. Little Man is still kicking away all the time!  He sleeps until late morning and then he's all over the place for the rest of the day.  It's fun but it's also uncomfortable sometimes. When I weighed myself on Sunday, which is when I usually do it to update my pregnancy app, I was only up 15lbs.  As of today, though, I am up 17lbs.  I feel like I am growing at warp speed but the doctor assures me that I am measuring just fine.  I do feel like some of the shirts I wore two weeks ago shouldn't be worn anymore though!  The bump is growing! I have noticed that I have been waking up with swollen ankles every morning despite sleeping with them elevated.  I know this has a lot to do with the weight gain since I had such a problem with it last time.  Other than that, the normal heartburn and backaches come and go and I'm crazy tired but I don't really have any other issues.  I don't ever ...
