#7. Grooming Gear

"Keeping baby's nails short will prevent him from scratching himself and you. Use blunt nail clippers made especially for baby's soft little nails. Buy a bottle of baby lotion to rub on his skin after a bath to keep it moist. Be sure to purchase lotions formulated for babies, and if your little one is prone to rashes or eczema, try oil made with calendula. If your newborn has hair, purchase a fine-toothed baby comb to gently style his hair after bathing."

Once again, I won't get into bath lotions because people are very picky about what kinds of lotions they are going to use, especially if the baby has sensitive skin. Nail clippers and combs, however, are a different story. They are all pretty much the same except for color and design.

This set comes with the nail clippers, emery boards, a comb and a brush and a spray bottle. And it all comes in a cute little bag:

Girl's Grooming Kit

Boy's Grooming Kit

Now I would recommend getting at least two of everything so that you have one set for home and one set for travel. All of these items can be found individually if you only want to keep duplicates of some of them.

If you really want to go all out, you can get a deluxe grooming kit like this one:

Girl's Deluxe Grooming Kit

This baby is a 25 piece kit that includes:
-Steady grip nail clippers
-5 emery boards
-Gentle care hairbrush and comb
-Cradle cap comb
-Digital thermometer with case
-5 alcohol wipes
-5 thermometer covers
-Bottle medicine dispenser
-Clear tip nasal aspirator
-Gentle care toddler toothbrush
-Emergency information card
-Zippered, adjustable, clutch-style travel case
-Features easy-to-access zippered compartments to help you stay organized

Boy's Deluxe Grooming Kit

The Boy's set comes with:
-Gentle care brush with a comfort-grip handle and soft-bristles
-Gentle care comb with comfort-grip handle and fine- and wide-tooth ends
-Cradle cap comb gently removes flaking skin from scalp
-Clear tip nasal aspirator with small, flexible tip
-BPA-free bottle medicine dispenser
-Steady grip nail clippers with an easy-grip handle and curved cutting edges
-Digital thermometer with protective case
-5 disposable prove covers ensure a clean thermometer every time
-Emergency contact card
-Gentle care toddler toothbrush with a roll-resistant, comfort-grip handle
-5 alcohol wipes
-5 emery boards for stress-free nail shaping

I love little baby clippers and combs because they are just so tiny and cute! I would probably register for two of these so that I had one for home and one for travel. Even though you probably want a more sophisticated thermometer than the one offered in the deluxe kit, it's never bad to have a simple one around just in case.

17 Tips - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin

17 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. It took me a little while to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamin. I wasn't used to taking anything daily since I had been off the pill for a few months. I finally got myself in the habit of taking it every morning. I just take an over the counter vitamin. It has the same nutrients as a doctor prescribed vitamin but is less hass...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...

29 Week Bumpdate

The heart rate today was 160 and all is well. Little Man is still kicking away all the time!  He sleeps until late morning and then he's all over the place for the rest of the day.  It's fun but it's also uncomfortable sometimes. When I weighed myself on Sunday, which is when I usually do it to update my pregnancy app, I was only up 15lbs.  As of today, though, I am up 17lbs.  I feel like I am growing at warp speed but the doctor assures me that I am measuring just fine.  I do feel like some of the shirts I wore two weeks ago shouldn't be worn anymore though!  The bump is growing! I have noticed that I have been waking up with swollen ankles every morning despite sleeping with them elevated.  I know this has a lot to do with the weight gain since I had such a problem with it last time.  Other than that, the normal heartburn and backaches come and go and I'm crazy tired but I don't really have any other issues.  I don't ever ...
