To Touch or Not To Touch...

...the baby bump that is!

Question of the week: Is it ok for complete strangers to walk up to you and touch your baby bump? What about family members and friends?

I have a serious issue with touching to begin with. The request is simple: Don't touch me! I don't like to be hugged. I don't like to be touched on the shoulder while you are talking to me. I especially don't like close talkers. I need my space! I need that space more now than ever.

I absolutely DO NOT think that it is ok for ANYONE to touch the baby bump, especially without asking! The only person who gets a free pass to touch the bump at any time is my husband, and maybe my Mom.

As far as strangers go, you don't just walk up to a complete stranger and touch their belly. I wouldn't even walk up to a stranger and ask to touch their belly. That's just weird and rude. Why would anyone do that? Why would you want to touch some random person's belly? And why would they let you?!

As far as family members go, that's a choice each person has to make. I'm more ok with family and friends than I would be with a stranger but I still don't expect my family or friends to just start touching me. I would expect them to ask first. And, if I am in a rare mood and decide to say no, I would expect them to be ok with that. Why do you want to touch it? It's not like the baby is moving!

I think that if someone says to you, "Oh! The baby is moving! Do you want to feel it?" then it's all good and you should go for it. Of course, it's the Mom's choice if she wants to share that with you or not. As far as I'm concerned, if you've had a baby before, you already know what it feels like so you don't need to touch mine.

So far, I have only had one friend get away with touching my belly without asking. She knows who she is and she knows that she probably won't get away with it again! Like I said, my husband is the only one who gets that free pass.

So is it wrong that I want to buy this t-shirt?

Is this one any less offensive?

I guess I don't really care if I offend anyone just keep your hands off my baby bump!

Any thoughts?

17 Tips - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin

17 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. It took me a little while to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamin. I wasn't used to taking anything daily since I had been off the pill for a few months. I finally got myself in the habit of taking it every morning. I just take an over the counter vitamin. It has the same nutrients as a doctor prescribed vitamin but is less hass...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...

29 Week Bumpdate

The heart rate today was 160 and all is well. Little Man is still kicking away all the time!  He sleeps until late morning and then he's all over the place for the rest of the day.  It's fun but it's also uncomfortable sometimes. When I weighed myself on Sunday, which is when I usually do it to update my pregnancy app, I was only up 15lbs.  As of today, though, I am up 17lbs.  I feel like I am growing at warp speed but the doctor assures me that I am measuring just fine.  I do feel like some of the shirts I wore two weeks ago shouldn't be worn anymore though!  The bump is growing! I have noticed that I have been waking up with swollen ankles every morning despite sleeping with them elevated.  I know this has a lot to do with the weight gain since I had such a problem with it last time.  Other than that, the normal heartburn and backaches come and go and I'm crazy tired but I don't really have any other issues.  I don't ever ...
