#17. Words to Love By

"Many studies have shown the benefits of reading to your baby from a very early age for her intellectual development. But it's also a wonderful time to cuddle with your baby and reacquaint yourself with some of your favorite stories from childhood -- and discover some new ones. Keep a small library of picture books within reach of your favorite rocking chair."

Let's start with the rocking chair. A nice, comfortable chair has got to go into the nursery. You just can't have a nursery without it. Now there is a huge difference between the rocking chairs of 30 years ago and the rocking chairs of today. If I have it my way, we will have a gliding chair in our nursery. These chairs are so comfortable and they just glide so smoothly. You can pick one up at Wal-Mart.

Customize Storkcraft Glider & Ottoman, Espresso Finish - I would go with this one because you can choose different colors. If you are not picky about the color, you can go with the beige color for around $20 cheaper. It has pockets on either side for storage and it comes with the foot rest.

Now, onto the books. I love books. I used to read a lot when I was a kid and I still like to read when I have time. There are so many different kinds of books out there now, it can be overwhelming to choose the right ones. I would like to have a few touch books in my baby's library. The ones that have texture to the pictures like shown below. Duckling and Friends - I love books like this because they create an interactive environment for the child.

Some of my favorite books growing up were: Curious George, Bernstain Bears, Clifford, Dr. Seuss and the Little Critter collection by Mercer Mayer. I loved Little Critters because I loved trying to find the spider in every picture.

My favorite book growing up, though, was Animalia. This book is crazy! I can't even describe this book so I will just quote the descriptions from the publishers: ""Animalia" is sure to be a source of endless enchantment and entertainment for children and adults alike. Base's masterful illustrations will sweep readers into a world of richly colored and intricately illustrated animals and objects with the turn of every page. "A delightful visual feast."--"Publishers Weekly." Animalia

As much as I love the book, I had no idea that there was a whole series of these books! I came across Animalia a few years ago at a Border's Book Store and I bought it so that starts the collection but I will be buying all of the other Graeme Base books as well.

SAHM is looking better and better. My husband owns his own landscaping business which has been both wonderful and horrible at the same time! My husband and I know each other for about 17 years now and we have been together for 12. We got married in September of 2010, just 2 weeks shy of our 10th anniversary! We got pregnant after only 2 months of trying and last December we were greeted by Ashlyn Marie Miller,...

17 Tips - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin

17 Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy - #1 Take a Prenatal Vitamin Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. It took me a little while to get into the habit of taking my prenatal vitamin. I wasn't used to taking anything daily since I had been off the pill for a few months. I finally got myself in the habit of taking it every morning. I just take an over the counter vitamin. It has the same nutrients as a doctor prescribed vitamin but is less hass...

HFMD

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash. ( http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/about/index.html) Are you kidding me? Blister-like sores in the mouth? Why do things like this even exist? What purpose does an illness like this that just torments little babies (and their parents) serve?  This stupid illness is currently 'running it's course' through my poor son. One week before his first birthday. Apparently it's 'going around' as the doctor so nicely explained.  Fortunately we only had one really bad day where he was not eating or drinking much and was just miserable. He was back to his usually happy self in no time even with blisters in his mouth. So this week, while my husband is away for work in Chicago and ...
