Linking up with Callie at Through Clouded Glass and Melanie at Country Roads for
This is actually a really good link up for me because we have started experimenting with more foods now that Baby Girl is almost ten months old but I am having a hard time with letting her try new things. I guess I just don't think she is ready to be eating certain foods.
Ashlyn eats any and all stage two baby foods. The only thing she seems to dislike is the turkey meals. Otherwise, she will eat anything. We get the bulk boxes that have peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, bananas and apple strawberry. We also buy the meat foods that are chicken and veggies, chicken noodle or turkey and veggies. She also eats puffs of all flavors and the Gerber yogurts.
We have also given her mashed potatoes, small pieces of pasta and rice, turkey burger, cooked carrots and peas, broccoli and cauliflower, bread, ice cream and cake every now and then.
I tried giving her some stage three chicken noodle the other day and she started choking on it. I know she isn't used to the texture or the chunks of food in it but choking is not suggested in our house so we gave her pudding instead.
I also bought her the Gerber yogurt melts and the Gerber Lil' Crunchies. She wasn't a fan of either. I know she just has to get used to the textures but Momma gets so uneasy when she eats larger chucks of food.
Ashlyn's general feeding schedule:
She gets a bottle of soy formula as soon as she wakes up, which is usually around 7.
For breakfast (around 9:30), she gets some baby cereal (stage 2) and some stage 2 fruit.
For lunch (around 12:30), she gets some more cereal and either fruit or a veggie.
She usually gets an afternoon bottle around 3:30.
For dinner (around 6), she gets a veggie and a meat meal, or some of our food depending on what I'm making for dinner.
She gets her night time bottle before bed, which is usually around 9:30.
She also gets puffs as snacks throughout the day.
I like her feeding schedule. I think it's a good schedule and I notice that she gets cranky whenever we stray away from this schedule. Sundays are hard to keep with the schedule because of church but we do our best.
So the question is...Should she be eating more 'adult' foods and less baby foods?
I don't know what my issue is with letting her try new foods. I just always think she's not going to understand that she has to chew it or that it's going to be too hard for her to chew and she's going to choke on it. I can't get that fear out of my head.
I know that she has to get used to the different textures of things but maybe I can just wait until she has a few more teeth before I really start giving her adult foods?

Thanks for linking up Vanessa!! I totally understand your reservations on giving your baby girl more 'grown up' foods just yet. Don't worry..I was (and still am!) the same way..my girl didnt start getting any teeth until she was 10 months old so an obvious thought is how are they going to chew anything if they are all gums?! But don't worry..she will get the hang of it..just trust your instincts on what to give her now and what not!! My girl (Makayla) didn't really start eating (aka chunkier foods) what we ate until she was a little past a year old!
ReplyDeleteWell that makes me feel better! She got her two bottom teeth a while ago and the top teeth are coming in now but I still get so worried about how she is going to chew anything! She has tried a pretty big variety of adult foods I just don't give them to her on a regular basis. I figure, if she's getting what she needs from the baby foods, why change it?!
DeleteI think Wyatt was close to a year before we started doing more chunky foods - because he'd choke on them too, and it freaked me out! It sounds like she is a good eater, I wouldn't worry about pushing the adult foods until you know she can handle it!
