#16. LIghts & Sounds

"Although most new moms are inclined to hover over their babies every moment, it's not always possible. A baby monitor offers some peace of mind in those moments when you have to be out of earshot of your baby's cries or coos. The best monitors offer a handset that you can take with you around the house or out into the yard.

Keeping a nightlight in the baby's room is also a good idea. There will be many nighttime visits, and stumbling around the room when you're half-awake isn't safe for you or the baby. A low-level light won't startle either of you and is perfect for feeding or changing."

I am very excited about buying a baby monitor. Yes, I know that's weird, but I don't care! I have been researching baby monitors a lot lately. It’s amazing and overwhelming to see how many different types of monitors there are out there and what kinds of options they all offer. I started off by listing the options I had to have: audio and video with color screen, good range, night vision and easy to use. These are the options I will not compromise on.

When doing a search for the top baby monitors on the market, I came across this article from TheBump.com: Top 10 Baby Monitors. When searching for the best baby monitors with video, I came across this article: Baby Video Monitor Reviews.

Both of these articles provide some great information about baby monitors and I encourage you to read each one and compare the different options. The baby monitor I chose, however, didn't make either of these lists even though I feel it should have. Maybe it didn't make the list because it can be used for more than just baby monitoring or maybe it's because it's newer to the market. I did a lot of research and this monitor is the one. It has one particularly extraordinary feature that I am so excited to use.

Price Comparison:

Lorex Website: Monitor & One Camera for $199.99
Wal-Mart: Monitor & Two Cameras for $229.99
Best Buy: Monitor & One Camera for $129.99
Best Buy: One Camera for $89.99

So it would be nice to have zoom and to have lights on the monitor so that when the baby makes noise the monitor lights up. The descriptions also don't say whether this is wall-mountable. The other side is that the monitor is a battery saver so the video turns off until the baby makes noise, almost like a monitor with lights. I can do without the zoom function as long as I set the camera close enough to the baby. Even if it isn't wall-mountable, we can figure something out. We are crafty people.

The function that I am most excited to use? The picture taking function! I love that this thing can take pictures at the touch of a button. My husband and I are both picture takers and I know there are going to be so many pictures taken with this monitor. It's perfect for us! I also love the fact that it is expandable to up to 4 cameras.

We will probably start out with one camera and go for the Best Buy price of $129.99. Then, once the baby is big enough to move around on his or her own, we can grab another camera for the family room. Or we can grab 3 more cameras if we want to. I would probably make the initial investment since the prices is a bit hefty, but I could add other cameras to the registry as well.

It doesn't matter because I am so excited to get and use this monitoring system. I found this review online and it really helped seal the deal for me:

As far as night lights go, you can pick these up anywhere. You can get the all plug-ins or the ones that stick to the walls. I will probably go for something that matches the nursery, whenever find out what we are having!

Blog Commenting Challenge!

Linking up with Jenna's Journey  for the 3rd Annual Blog Commenting Challenge! Hi! I'm Vanessa! I live with my husband Bryan and my amazing 6 month old Ashlyn in Pennsylvania. I was born and raised here and love it very much! We have 2 pugs, Katie and Utley, one black lab, Camo and one cat, Joey. Our second cat, Kitty, is sadly recently deceased (on Father's Day). I work full time as a Marketing Analyst for a supply chain consulting firm. I don't even know what that means really! I have been here for 3 years and am thinking about a career change. SAHM is looking better and better. My husband owns his own landscaping business which has been both wonderful and horrible at the same time! My husband and I know each other for about 17 years now and we have been together for 12. We got married in September of 2010, just 2 weeks shy of our 10th anniversary! We got pregnant after only 2 months of trying and last December we were greeted by Ashlyn Marie Miller,

I'm Not Gonna Lie

Anyone who knows me know that I LOVE Christmas.  I love the decorations.  I love to decorate my own house and see all of the other cool decorations other people have.  There is a house down the street from us that always has more lights and decorations than I have ever seen in one yard.  It's a bit much but it's an attention grabber. I love the Christmas tree.  I love to get the tree out each year (yes we have a fake because I can't stand the needles) and I love to decorate it.  Growing up, our family would decorate the tree together with all kinds of ornaments that we had collected over the years.  I like to do themes for my trees.  Last year I did pink and silver in honor of the newest member of our family.  I'm really hoping to instill the tradition of decorating the tree with my kids. I love finding the perfect gifts for people and I love to watch their reactions when they open those gifts.  I generally wait until I have purchased ALL of my gifts, I sort them

Big News!

We have been trying very hard to keep this to ourselves for just a little while longer but I can't wait anymore!    Baby Miller #2...due 09/01/13!!!!!!!!! I am 8 weeks and 1 day I have known since Christmas Eve I am much more tired and much more nauseous this time around I haven't gained a single pound yet, unlike last time I am not so secretly hoping it's another girl If this one is anything like Baby Girl, he or she will be born mid-August I've been leaving hints all over the place but no one noticed! I am so excited!   I've already had one doctor's appointment but I was only 7 weeks so there wasn't much to do.  We couldn't hear the heartbeat or anything so the next appointment will be much more exciting!  My next appointment isn't until February 11th so that's when I'll get to hear and possibly see my next little monster!  So exciting!   PS:  Notice the blog title?!
